Compare · Built in vs. bolted on
Hey Quad vs Ooma Office
Ooma Office is built as a ladder. The entry plan is calling; texting arrives on Pro, and call queues, CRM integration and AI transcription only on the top Pro Plus plan. The AI receptionist is an add-on on every plan, and the page states that taxes and fees are not included. With Hey Quad, texting, the Inbox, recording, queues, transcripts and the CRM are on every seat, and the quote shows every tax and fee for your address before you sign.

What the advertised price leaves out
In Ooma Office’s own words:
*Applicable taxes and fees are not included
On top of any advertised seat price come your state and local communications taxes, a 911 fee per number, the federal Universal Service charge and, with most providers, a fee line of their own. Our quote lists every one of them for your address before you sign, and adds no “regulatory recovery fee” of our own. What each of those lines is.
Where Ooma Office is better
Ooma is the most honest of the national providers about the fact that fees exist: their taxes-and-fees page names each line and explains what it recovers. Their calling allowance is also broader than ours, with unlimited calling to Mexico and Puerto Rico as well as the US and Canada, and if you make a lot of calls to Mexico that alone may decide it. And Ooma has been shipping this product since 2013, with a hardware line and a large support organisation behind it.
We would rather you read that here than find it out in month two. If it describes your business, buy theirs.
Questions people ask
- Is Hey Quad cheaper than Ooma Office?
- Compare the number on the invoice, not the one on a pricing page. Advertised seat prices leave out state and local taxes, the federal Universal Service charge, the provider’s own fee lines and every add-on in the table above. We send a written quote with all of it for your address, each on its own line, and the bill matches it, so you can put the two side by side before you sign.
- Do you cover my area?
- Tell us where the business is and we’ll quote you, including that location’s taxes and fees, each on its own line.
- Can I keep my number if I move from Ooma Office?
- Yes. Your number is yours. We handle the port with your current carrier and schedule the switch so your phones do not go quiet in the middle of a workday. The switching guide has the steps.
- Does Ooma include text messaging?
- Not on the entry plan. Pro and Pro Plus include monthly texting allowances. Every Hey Quad seat includes texting, pooled across the team, in the same Inbox as your calls.
- Is Ooma’s AI receptionist included?
- Their plans page lists AI Receptionist as an add-on on every plan. Ours is an add-on too, in named tiers with their own pool of AI minutes, priced on the same quote as everything else.
- Does Ooma add fees?
- Their plans page says "Applicable taxes and fees are not included", and their taxes-and-fees page names each line. It does not give you the amounts for your address before you buy. Our quote does.
